Members of New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women (Otago Branch) value:
We welcome as members all women with tertiary qualifications conferred in New Zealand or overseas; and we welcome enquiries about the financial grants and awards we offer for educational programmes, and individual women and girls of various backgrounds and attainment levels.
Our current members’ ideas about the benefits of joining NZFGW (Otago Branch) include the following:
All members and prospective members are welcome at Branch meetings. Meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of the months of February to April and June to November, at 7.30pm in the Benham Seminar Room, 2nd floor, Zoology Department, University of Otago. The Zoology Department is at 340 Great King St (opposite Physiotherapy and next to Dentistry). The Benham Building is the newer building, set back from the street. Access is via the big glass doors at the back of the car park. You are welcome to use the car park. The doors of the building are locked at night, but a Branch member will be there to open the door for you from approximately 7.15pm until the meeting begins at 7.30pm.
Inside the building use the stairs or the elevator to reach the second floor. The Benham Seminar Room is at the end of the corridor heading north. It is signposted at the doorway to the elevator.
NZFGW (Otago Branch) activities include:
All members are welcome to participate in these activities.
Membership of NZFGW (Otago Branch) is open to all women with a degree (or equivalent diploma, licence or certificate that enables the holder to proceed to postgraduate study at a recognised tertiary institution) conferred in New Zealand or overseas. Women who have completed two years full-time study for such a qualification (or the part-time equivalent) may join as associate members. Membership is renewed each year, with the membership year running from 1 July to 30 June. Those joining part way through a year still pay the full annual amount. To join us, download our Membership application form. Complete the form and post it (with your cheque or verification of your direct credit payment) to the Membership Secretary, NZFGW (Otago Branch), P O Box 6334, Dunedin North, Dunedin 9059 or email to email@example.com.
Examples of the work in the community that the Branch undertakes:
From time to time, we contribute to issues relevant to our mission raised by government and society, and to remits to our national conference and National Council of Women conferences.
Otago Branch awards and grants are dispersed from the funds of either NZFGW (Otago Branch) or NZFGW (Otago Branch) Charitable Trust. Their purposes and eligibility criteria are varied. If you are interested in any of the Otago Branch awards or grants, please read all of the material supplied in the relevant Application Pack, which can be accessed here.
The postal address for NZFGW (Otago Branch) Charitable Trust is PO Box 6334, Dunedin North, Dunedin 9059.
In May, August, and December, we ask members to contribute time to our fund-raising business of hiring out academic dress. The proceeds raised from this provide funds for National Fellowships and the Branch’s own awards and grants. Special projects in the community are also supported by these funds.
Outside graduation times, the Regalia rooms are open for casual hiring on Wednesdays between 12 noon and 2.00pm.
